A small selection from the Bora Aksu AW16 catwalk show that I got to attend at London Fashion Week. I loved the colour palette,  from rich reds and plums to fairy soft pinks. The dramatic surrounds of the church played it’s perfect role in this gothic/victorian inspired collection. The glossy checker board flooring was effective in bringing each piece to life.Although the collection had an influence from the victorian era it was still very modern. With high necks, sheer fabrics, lacy collars and dropped waists. Not to be taken too seriously (the bonnets) but to be inspired by. To take the pieces you love and to work them into your look your way.

I always love his designs. So much thought put into every piece. It’s always an inspiration seeing these catwalk shows. It’s not to create the exact looks but to be inspired – to find a new way when you dress. Taking note of new season colour trends -colour mixing and for putting pieces together in different ways is what it’s about.

The intricate and delicate finishing makes every piece special. There’s always a conflict within the collection with feminine floaty pieces versus a strong bold edge. Ruffles, fur, tailored jackets, laced up boots and so much more… Love love love as always Bora Aksu xx Dawn

Read it, love it, wear it…

I came into my bedroom to find my daughter amongst my magazine collection and realised she had made quite a work of art. I decided as they lay on my bedroom floor looking amazing It was a moment to capture. Each cover looked striking and I remembered why I loved each one, not only for the front cover but for the inspirations inside. I remembered why I had kept them and that the looks and styles still as beautiful today as when first published. Some of them iconic.

It’s so easy to be bombarded by all the different trends the mags speak of and there seems to be so many lately. Neon, candy, girlie, monochrome, purist, minimalist, max out, shimmer, lace, spots and stripes and all things expensive and nice. It can blow your mind to a point you don’t know what you are or what you should invest in !! I want to be all of them and find I cross from one to the other in a matter of days. I guess I don’t want to be boxed in with what I wear and like to try everything. I know what I like and have learnt to be more selective with what I wear. I have also been known to get very carried away and buy impulsively and not with any preactical reason for doing so. I’ve sometimes come home to find that what seemed like a brilliant idea an hour ago actually isn’t so great when I realise I don’t have a thing to go with it and it remains in the wardrobe unworn but still loved !!

I’m in a dilema at the moment. I seem to be building my wardrobe around all the shoes I love and now that’s left me with about three different looks I need to accomplish just to fit the shoe !!! The joys of fashion, it’s never enough. As soon as you got one thing you need another (or want I should say) Just as I was comfortable with what I wanted for summer I saw the a/w catwalks and now want a whole diffreent thing. The constant cycle of fashion can drive you crazy but I guess you just have to dress to what you want. Ultimately it’s not about what’s in it’s about how you want to look, feel and be !!! I use these magazines no matter how old they are to inspire me. If I like a look from 10 years ago I will re-create it and not care if it’s on trend or not. I just think it looks great and that’s all that matters !!

Felder Felder

Yesterday London Fashion week kicked off and i was there to see a few shows, one of them being Felder, Felder. Luckily for me the brilliant Hilary Alexander was sat one row ahead. Afterwards i managed to catch up with her and discuss our thoughts on fashion.
The show consisted of light airy dresses embellished with gold studs, prints, metallics and like the other shows i had watched that day black was a running theme through out the collection. The shoes were heavy in design, block heels which i love and as like the dresses; heavily decorated in studding. The pretty cream chiffon dresses adorned with studs were my favourite from the collection. I liked the idea of the conflict between the two, soft and harsh, right and wrong. Feminine yet armoured with something hard and durable… i like that. Read on..

A day at the Studio:Beauty,Style and Fashion….

I was lucky enough to attend the shoot for Ian Davies’s entry into the British Hair dressing awards yesterday at the ultra cool Worx studio, London. Wow what a fabulous place.
The studio was nestled down a pebble lane in Parsons green. Behind a steel gate into a super chic courtyard surrounded by modern studios…I parked up with great excitement.

I got to the studio to find a model already being prepared by the lovely Jo frost make up artist who had just returned from a stint in Paris for fashion week. Also in attendance celebrity stylist Jared Green, Welsh designer Michelle Victoria McGrath and the delightful photographer John Rawson and assistant Paul gill.

What a line up !!!

Ian was looking super cool and calm fixing rollers…working his magic !!

I walked into the dressing area where it was laden with gorgeous pieces from high street and designers; sequins;sparkles; silvers and nudes….but the piece that mostly stood out was a beautiful dress by Michelle, WOW
It was in my favorite color “nude” and it had curious detailing at the bottom..as I talked to Michelle I found out this detailing was actually called shibori. A very intricate time consuming technique used by only a few in the industry, but is growing fast.
It was delicate, soft …just beautiful. I was luckily enough to get the chance to try it on…mmm dreammmmyyyy

I have lots to report from Michelle but you will have to wait as I got a fab interview with her that I will be posting in the coming few days.

All I can say is I love her work and her inspirations are fascinating..

Ian was working hard on the gorgeous models provided by some of the best modelling agencies in the country.
I have to say they looked stunning… Jo did the make up beautifully.. so subtle and natural. I wish I could reveal the look but I can’t until a later date, as these are the entry pictures for the British hairdressing awards.

I spoke to Jo about her time at London Fashion week and of course Paris.

She had been working on the the make up for the runway shows at London for designers Jo Hynes and Helen Steele. She still seemed excited about the whole time of Fashion week and I’m sure with good reason.. One of my ambitions would be to be backstage amongst the hustle and bustle or better still snapping away on front row but I’d be happy with back row or anywhere near if I’m honest!!!

The shoot took place over two days. I was in attendance for the second day of shooting .. looking at the shots from the day previous I could see I was in for a treat of high style and Fashion.. the transformation in hair was stunning !

The images produced were of such high quality .. I felt I was looking at a cover of Vogue !!

John Rawson is an amazing photographer and has personality to suit. I had lots of laughs and good fun he was very welcoming rich in experience and knowledge.. I hope we meet again …

I can’t wait to reveal the pictures but you will have to wait..

Until then here are a few from the day…

Jared,Me,Ian,Michelle

I had a fantastic day .. thank you to all those I met and hopefully see you again soon !!

Ian it was great to see you working and wow you really produced some fab looks !!! stunning

p.s I need my hair done !!!
