Statement dressing. Special pieces that last forever. I’m doing it this year with this gorgeous trophy jacket. Out and about in London so thought I’d team it up with a pair of suede heels and torn up jeans.
These kind of jackets are great for day-to-night dressing. Smart or casual as I’ve done here. It’s a great staple piece. It’s a great time to be investing in this type of thing. Sales and massive reductions mean you can get your hands on some pretty amazing stuff but for a snippet of the price. I love the sales. And there are plenty of them this year. I find it easier online to shop them. I went in store in London yesterday and it was totally exhausting and I couldn’t find what I was looking for. There are pro’s and cons to both. The downside to online is not being able to try the things on before you buy… the dreaded waiting for the refund but it’s calm and relaxing and fun browsing the fashion pages. Then there’s the joy of trying things on there and then but with the drama of picking through the rails. I’ve had the best success this year online. Have you found anything nice yet? I’d definitely go for a trophy jacket, shoes or a handbag as a rule especially when I’ve been saving for something. Happy shopping guys. (I’ve listed a few of my favourite sales belw)
Don’t you just love summer. Warm days that just feel so easy. Long lazy nights sat with a warm breeze and a cold drink. There’s definitely been a feel of summer these last few days. Dressing for summer can sometimes feel daunting. Having to unveil skin that hasn’t seen daylight for months isn’t the nicest feeling. It can sometimes feel awkward. Tops of legs and arms or the belly. Wearing cut out tops and shorts can feel alien to start, but it only takes a few days and everything feels natural again.
Preparing skin for summer sun can be an effort. But if you keep on top of it, you don’t need to be constantly worrying about it’s appearance. A good exfoliator is the key and I also like to use a coco butter to moisturise my skin as it’s longer lasting and really helpful at hydrating my skin. I’ve recently used the Charlotte Tilbury body balm and magic face cream. I have to say the results are amazing. My skin was instantly radiant with minimum effort. I always like to tan my skin with a little help from my favourite James reed mousse. Make sure skin is treated before applying-especially if its for a special occasion. I never exfoliate the same day as I tan. I always worry about damaging the skin then adding something to it that can aggravate it. So I allow at least 12 hours before I apply the tan. I always moisturise my ankles and hands after the tan to try and even it out. Bony areas are always a pain to get right. Big point to watch out for is washing hands after tanning. Don’t do it…well not for at last 30 minutes anyway. Gentle exfoliators are the best for the face, nothing too rough remember delicate areas need some TLC. Keep lips soft in the heat with a handbag size lip balm and I always think a eye serum is useful to use throughout the day to keep looking fresh and radiant. Happy pampering. xx Dawn
The New Year is the perfect excuse for a new beginning. Healthy eating, getting fit and getting rid of all the bad habits. We are nearly a week in already and I’ve been trying really hard to improve my diet and training program. Seeing as I did nothing before anything is going to be an improvement. It’s going to be a long, hard road but I’m really determined to improve my body shape, eat a better diet and get fit. I’m really enjoying being focused. It’s a great distraction to the fact it’s the most depressing month of the year. I’ve not even noticed it’s so blue, because I’ve been enjoying planning my training diary and trying out new smoothies with pretty much anything and everything. It’s easy to go too hard too soon. So I’m trying to ease myself in, so that I don’t get burnt out and get bored within a few weeks. I really want this to be the start of a better more exciting lifestyle. Getting fit means being able to take part in more life activities. Having turned 40 a few weeks ago I’ve got a new energy for enjoying new activities ans joining in with my kids and their training schedules. I can’t do track anymore as my knees are completely finished. Agony to run on them so I have to look at other ways to be cardio fit and burn the calories. I’m really keen to tone up more then anything. Being strong is also important to me, so I’ll enjoy doing weight training but not to the point where I develop too much muscle. I’ve been starting off with skipping. Trying to to 10 minutes to start. That doesn’t sounds like much but when your trying to maintain a decent pace it burns pretty quickly. Going thru the burn is all about mental attitude. Do’t be afraid to have a little pain. Obviously not the dangerous type .. more of the muscle burn ( lactic acid ) type. I’ve been doing conditioning exercises using my body weight. I will slowly introduce small dumbbells but for now I’m doing 3 sets of 20 exercises. Sit ups, press us, squats, squat thrusts & tricep dips. I’ve been punching pads and a speed ball to get my heart rate up.I’ve done 25 minutes so far and will steadily increase that when I start feeling stronger.
As for my diet I’ve been enjoying smoothies. I’ve stopped eating diary. This is because it really doesn’t work for my body. It’s taken me a long time to discover these things. I wish I knew more when I was competing professionally. I might of found it easier to loose the weight. It was very intense being an athlete and I put a lot of expectations on myself. It’s not an easy world. Dreams are often crushed and you come against people who want to break you. You really have to be tough and strong minded to over come adversity. I have to say being an athlete set me up with a great determination and resilience. I find it hard to quit. It’s not what I ever did. I only wish I had the knowledge back then.. maybe others might not of been so keen to be so bullying!!! It wasn’t easy fighting for selections, fighting against the weight, being left out of teams, missing out on championships, injuries and soooo much more.Nothing comes easy and I tell my children this. You have to sometimes fight for what you want. It comes with hard work… years of it!!! Rewards don’t always come straight away. So that’s the same for me now. I have to be patient and accepting that the things I want will take a while to come but if I stick to it I should be ok.
Join me on my journey. I’m posting lots over on instagram. Maybe we can do it together. Let me know what your doing. Share your training plans here with me. Or great ideas for what to eat etc. Happy workout xx Dawn
